I was able to take advantage of a last minute cancellation, and attended for surgery in the Trauma department of Forth Valley Royal Infirmary recently. Everyone was very welcoming and I was impressed by how staff introduced themselves to me, and told me what they were about to do. It made me feel that they really cared about my comfort. The registrar carrying out the procedure also explained clearly what he was going to do, and kept me involved at all times in the process. I appreciated a hand to hold while receiving the injections, the only painful thing about the operation. Staff in the recovery room were also welcoming, and made sure that I knew what would happen next.
I felt I was regarded as an individual, not just the patient. I appreciated the courtesy and consideration of all nursing staff and the skill of the registrar.
