"Lack of respect from accodent and emergency staff"

About: Tiverton and District Hospital

Had to bring a colleague over to accident and emergency as she had hurt her foot and as a first aider had done all I'm allowed to do and she still couldn't weight bear. Arrived and booked in at reception very friendly helpful staff was called in to be booked in by a very nice person who asked some questions explained no pain meds given as first aiders are not allowed to administer or advise any pain meds she was fine and after pain score given also gave no pain meds and sent us back to waiting room. Called led back in ten minutes or so later to a nurse in dark blue who was rather abrupt and said how cross they were we hadn't given pain relief as they couldn't look at the foot with such a high pain score I again explained that in our first aid training we arnt allowed to administer or advise any pain relief was told well that's silly common sense tells you to advise paraceptamol and ibruprofen, I again explained I'm not allowed to do either to which I was told they were fed up of our staff bringing people over all the time when we haven't even tried giving simple pain relief which costs 16p in a supermarket and it's no wonder the nhs is failing. I am beyond words as two people who pay our national insurance and very rarely ask for help I did not expect to be spoken to in such a way when ever I have had to either go over or take someone over to a and e I am always assured it's not a problem better to be safe than sorry so to receive such treatment from a staff member and a sister if I'm not mistaken is disgraceful. It's lucky I am not a timid person as I would hate to thing they would talk to another person in such a way and make them scared to send someone to be checked in future and send them home with a broken leg or torn muscle for fear of being essentially told off!!
