"The doctor googled it!!"

About: Doddington Hospital

So i went up to the minor injuries unit after being sent by my GP surgery; i have a lump on the top of my wrist which causesit to be painful for me to move. I was greeted by a very grumpy 'doctor' who didnt even have the courtesy to mumble a 'hello'. The Dr asked me what they could do and i explained my situation- the conversation continued with them being grumpy and frankly quite rude. The dr then said 'think it might be a ganglion' and then googled my symptons!! I told the doctor that I was not impressed they googled it which they became even more rude! The dr told me that you dont see many ganglions, so i asked if they were common and they said yes?! Their advice was to rest it but then i explained that i work in a childrens nursery so resting it is next to impossible- their reply was "well thats you decision mate." At that point i left. I do not expect a doctor to google it!! Perhaps ask someone else to look at it if you really are unsure? Could it be becaue i arrived close to closing hours and they just wanted to go home? I dont know.

Many Thanks for notifying us about this concern. Unfortunately as the posting is anonymous we are unable to contact the alerter directly, however I have made the Head of Service aware of the concern and she will discuss with the medical staff at the team meeting and endevour to locate the consultation notes for direct feedback to the clinician..

We are sorry that the service fell far short of your, and our own expectations as we expect all patients to be treated with the highest courtesy.

I am unable to advise whether it was indeed google that the doctor accessed, as the desktop computers that are in use, have direct access to medical reference soft-wear which is viewed as best practice and contains the most up to date treatment and diagnosis guides. This does not excuse the poor communication skills experienced for which we again apologise.

Should the alerter wish to discuss further please do call through to our Patient Advice and Liaison team on 01480 308255
