"Maternity services"

About: Broomfield Hospital

I gave birth to my first baby in April and was admitted to the DAU to be induced. The first midwife I saw was fantastic and quickly identified that my blood pressure was too high and organised for medication to lower it. Each time I saw this midwife they were fantastic however the same cannot be said for the rest of the staff. They were so over run that midwives were drafted in from other places.

3 failed inductions later, lots of being left on my own for many hours at a time, a severe lack of sleep due to another lady being in labour and being left on her own and it took my husband demanding something be done before I finally saw a doctor - 4 days after being admitted and they started the labour process. It was a pleasure to be moved to the labour ward where I felt that I was incredibly well looked after, was never left and was listened to. The midwife who delivered my baby even stayed beyond the end of their shift in order to support me until the end. The end of the birth was a little fraught however everyone worked quickly to ensure our baby was delivered safely. The staff on the labour ward were wonderful! I was then transferred to the postnatal ward and again the staff were fantastic. I had not slept for days and the midwives helped me out during the first night with feeds etc. It's such a shame that our experience of the hospital was marred by our time in the DAU.
