So a few months ago I got referred by my GP, to the Emergency eye clinic at the William Harvey hospital, after the optician noticed something wrong, having distorted vision and not being able to see with one eye after a fall down stairs due to an ongoing knee instability.
I must say the ophthalmologist was a true gentleman, I have had my second visit in the same hospital, being young and having distorted vision is rather fearful, but they checked everything, I saw the same consultant again, who sat me down checked everything, brought me up to the screen to show and explain all the graphs and results to me to find I had a problem and this eye on the graphs were red and orange rather than a normal green and yellow, he explained everything he could offer and what he thought was best, and said it needed to be checked on.
He was polite friendly funny and rather amusing too, he restored my faith in doctors after some previous experiences, I feared doctors. The standard of care for me was amazing, by him being honest and open it made me more comfortable, and he explained why I was having all the distorted vision, that consultant deserves a brownie point, this is what you class as quality of care..... if I could have an email to pass on this to the correct doctor as recognition that would be great.....
Be proud of your ophthalmology department they are true leaders of quality of care and empathy.
( The name of the doctor is Mr Schultz )
