"smoking nuisance"

About: Russells Hall Hospital

on a whole i have been quite pleased with the care my child has received here in the last 8 months,,there have been some instances for alarm which should have been addressed and maybe i will have the opportunity to air them.I attend RH most every week and what i find really annoying is the volume of people congregated around the main entrance doors smoking,,,in wheel chairs etc fresh off the wards,,now each to their own but im asthmatic and my daughter has a severe kidney disease,,,i would like not to have to walk through a wall of smoke,,i might add she is 10 month old and in a pram which i have to negotiate past them.please can they not do this elsewhere,,,should they even be allowed to smoke while hospitalised...as too the heavily pregnant women at maternity entrance ?

Thank you for submitting feedback about your experience of Russells Hall Hospital. It is good to hear that you have been pleased with your child’s care during your visits. We have passed your comments onto the team.

We are sorry to hear that you have experienced difficulty with smokers when visiting hospital. There is a strict no smoking policy in place which we regularly reinforce with our patients and staff. We do have security officers who regularly patrol the entrances and if anyone is found smoking, they are asked to use a smoking shelter. We are also in the middle of a brand new campaign to encourage stopping smoking on site.
