What I liked

The original architecture of the main entrance and the restaurant.

The staff in the ultrasound suite were very pleasant and helpful.

The chaplain was very pleasant to talk to when he was visiting the ward. The chapel is a small but lovely calming space, which is open and and a welcoming place for visitors.

The new hospital looks great, and hopefully will be once it opens.

The porters were all very helpful an cheerful, even when getting abuse from the nursing staff.

The hospital school staff are very good, and provided some excellent activities for the children on the ward.

The volunteer guides are always on hand (during working hours) to offer assistance in finding your way around the hospital.

What could be improved

Staff need diversity and equality training.

Patients and carers should be kept informed and their concerns acknowledged and dealt with in a sympathetic way. The nurses were hard to find, and rude when you did find them

The restaurant needs to have more choice for those suffering food intolerances and allergies, as on one visit we were unable to purchase any gluten free hot food other than mash and peas, not really a meal.

Allowing teenage patients to change other patients beds and carry babies and toddlers around the ward is concerning.

Attention to detail, nurses constantly wrote my daughters name incorrectly.

Privacy, discretion and confidentiality, on several occasions nurses chatted amongst themselves and with the parents of patients about patients and their families, these conversations were conducted on the ward and in full hearing of anyone on the ward.

Anything else?

My daughter was left in pain and without pain relief for over two hours, despite the nurses being asked several times for pain relief.

A nurse argued with a doctor about my daughters treatment in front of myself and my daughter.

It is a real shame that the hospital has been allowed to fall in to such a state of disrepair because of the promise of the new hospital, areas of the corridor floor have been in a dangerous state for over two years now.

On arrival my daughter need to provide a sample the nurse showed us to the bathroom and commented on the fact that a bath had been left full, twelve hours later the bath was still full and the rubbish surrounding it still in place.

The parents facilities on the children's ward are the worst I have ever experienced, the kitchen is so tiny that it is impossible for more than one person to comfortably use it. The parents lounge is possibly the most depressing place ever.
