"Life at the front line"

About: The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust

So I had a big old tumour the size of a space hopper and I thought "I know" "those chaps at Walton might like to take this out for me". And that they did ! The Awesome Surgeon and their amazing team spent 12 hours changing the filters on my brain and I am bereft of superlatives on how much I admire them for this. Just want to say you and your team are wonderful, I owe you my life and please let me say thank you. Anyway, the story continues, I'm out from surgery and I'm in HDU. I'm having weird hallucinations of that cowboy on the Los Vegas boulevard, you know the one, the big neon sign, big hat, thumb waving and cigarette hanging out his mouth. I'm also seeing this out of place robot with a creepy grin. Luckily the fearless and very brave Nurse stepped in and told those two figments of my imagination to get lost and in no uncertain terms to never return. HDU staff you are wonderful people and all joking aside, your strength give me strength and your professional care made all the difference. Moving on, I arrived in Cairns ward and pronounced to A leading nurse that my breast enlargement had been a complete success to which they replied your looking fabulous for it. I thought I might have shocked them a little. Not a jot. Their sense of humour knew no limits and they willingly joined in with my Irish Craic. As an ex British Army Warrant Officers with 23 years service, I have met some great commanders. One of which stated, we should be ferocious in battle but magnanimous in victory. This person inspired me to become as best a leader and commander as I possibly could. I truly believed that this type of person, leader and commander could only be found in the military. How wrong was I. The Cairns Ward staff's human kindness, honesty, loyalty and integrity proved to me that great inspirational leaders and commanders can be found outside the military environment and Walton hospital staff personify this.. They inspired me to keep strong, cared for me when I was a pain in the bum and encouraged me to be magnanimous in my victory. Thank you. Last but not least, all the staff at Walton prove that human kindness and loving care does exist and not just at Christmas, I love you all. Thank you.
