About: Lister Hospital

I was admitted to a&e by ambulance with a broken collar bone and head injury having fallen around 10ft from a ladder. The queue for ' majors' was such that beds were lined up in the corridor so I was moved to minors. I had not yet been assessed but was asked to move to a chair from a bed and in doing so fainted from the pain . I was then returned to a bed by put in a side room with a closed door and no way of contacting anyone outside . Thankfully a friend attended the hospital and joined me. Unable to use the toilet I was given a bowl but it wasn't put in place correctly and as such I urinated over myself being unable to move. My friend went for help but there was no one at the desk so she set about attempting to clean me up . When the nurses did eventually come I was met with a disgusted look and my clothing had to be cut off and thrown away. After 6 hours I saw a very nice doctor . By this time my head wound had stopped bleeding but I was feeling sick and dehydrated ( not to mention being stuck to the bed with dry blood) . Again I was put into a chair to attend X-ray and fainted. A porter had to lift me onto a bed and a doctor was called . It was a this point 6 hours in that I was given pain relief and some water ( having been told on arrival to wait to drink until I had been examined) . At around 2 am ( having arrived at 5 ) I was told I had indeed broken my clavicle and strapped up with an appointment to attend the following day. My friend asked about the overlooked head injury and the nurse said it was too large to glue . The doctor disagreed and my friend helped close the wound by hand so they could glue it . Overall I felt like a massive inconvienience and was pretty humiliated by the whole experience . In addition I repeatedly mentioned an existing medical condition which I knew would be relevant but it was dismissed . On attending fracture clinic I was told it was important as I had suspected .
