"Wonderful staff punitive parking"

About: Yeovil District Hospital

My friend was admitted to the A & E department yesterday.

The staff were very kind and efficient. No one could fault the treatment offered or the thoroughness and commitment of the staff. It took 5 hours to determine her treatment and I was 20 minutes late returning to the car park because I was talking to the doctor and could not get back to renew my ticket. For this I was fined a minimum of £40. Granted there were notices warning of this fine, but the system is not suitable for the users, because most people using the hospital don't know how long they will be, or whether they will be caught up in the hospital system and unable to return.

Also, if you're rushing to A & E, it may be difficult to find correct change for the high charges, or to go to another more user friendly car park. Why don't ParkingEye install the more suitable system of pay on exit, and allow a choice of payment methods? There is a cynical answer to that question.

Thank you for your comments. We will ensure those relating to your experience of our A&E department are shared with the team.

With regards to parking, we are aware it can be difficult for visitors to predict the amount of time required when paying. Our new hospital car park, currently being built, will use a pay-on-exit system to address this issue.

If you wish to discuss this issue with our Patient Experience Team, please contact them on 01935 384706
