"emergency cardiac operation"

About: John Radcliffe Hospital

Last saturday around 1.30 p.m.i experienced severe pain and weakness in addition to dizziness and profuse sweating.I asked my friend to call for an ambulance and on arrival ,immediate transfer to the ambulance and pain relief was rapidly administered by an excellent ambulance crew.During the journey to the hospital,i had to be recussitated three times as my heart had stopped.I was encouraged and greatly comforted by the paramedics who worked very hard to keep me alive. On arrival at the hospital i went directly to the operating theatre and after a few brief questions about possible allergies, the surgeon and his highly specialised team commenced the operation to insert a stent to open the blocked artery in my heart. This was effected very efficiently and explained fully to me as the procedure was conducted.I felt very confident to be in the hands of such highly qualified and experienced medical specialists.I was transferred to a single room for close observation for a day or so before being sent to the rapid improvement section. At all stages,i was visited constantly by well informed doctors and nursing staff all of whom explained in detail the operation and the recovery path for which i was extremely grateful.I will always remember the hospital staff at the John Radcliffe for literally saving my life .I had come very close to death and tomorrow i will rejoin my family in Ireland.I was so worried thinking of how my wife and the two boys, ages 13 and 11 would cope without me .I would expect to visit the hospital in the next few weeks and to express my gratitude directly to the ambulance crew and all the medical staff who saved my life.Thank you most sincerely.Rory.

Dear Rory, our sincere apologies for the delayed response to this. Thank you so much for taking the time to provide this feedback. It's great to hear that had such a positive experience of the care and treatment we provided; it must have been a very scary situation for you. It's reassuring for us to hear that everything was dealt with professionally and efficiently to insert the stent, and in particular that the procedure was explained clearly to you. We are very happy to hear that this level of communication continued into your aftercare ads well. We hope that you were able to give thanks directly to those who were involved in your care. Your family must have been extremely pleased when you returned safely to Ireland. Thank you again.
