"I was not looking forward to my ..."

About: Peterborough District Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I was not looking forward to my stay in PDH as I had a reaaly bad experience in Aug 2000, but I nedd not have worried as the entire staff, including the cleaner were always very professional, happy and attentive.

At times the ward was bursting , with new admissions waiting outside for a bed and the staff coped very well. They had many emergency admissions and still managed to attend to us all. Overall my stay was good, but nothing is quite as good as sleeping in your own bed

What could be improved

The meals were very bland and I had to add salt to everything. The tea trolley didn't always come around, even if the ward was quiet, and it was something that you looked forward to. I didn't like to ring for a coffee, so waited for the next one.

Anything else?

I am not sure if the weekend staff are bank staff or not. But when the saturday night shift changed, and with only 2 patients on a ward for 18, both at opposite ends of the ward, it took 3 hours for someone to even come down to my bay, and that was to check bp before lights out.

I felt very lonely that night and felt that if I went home that they wouldn't have noticed.

The Trust takes the experiences of patients and visitors to our hospitals very seriously and we aim to provide a safe, caring and effective service. However, we do recognise there are occasions when an experience may not have met the expectations of our patients or visitors and we are keen to understand how we can make things better.

To help us continually improve our services for current and future patients and visitors we need feedback and are happy to look into any matter where a patient or visitor is disappointed with the service they received.

This feedback has been forwarded to the relevant department to look into in further detail. Please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 01733 875847 or email pals@pbh-tr.nhs.uk who will provide help and advice regarding any issue.

Thank you for visiting NHS Choices.
