Having suffered from inflammatory bowl for 20+ years and suffering a recent flare up I contacted Dr Gillens helpline for advice as my routine appointment wasn't till December. They were very helpful and supportive and promised to do their best to get me seen ASAP.
Meantime I sought advice from specialist nurse Audrey and she was able to prescribe me medications to try to get on top of the inflammation.
Within 3 weeks I had received an appointment with Dr Gillen who had added an extra clinic and within 5 days I had undergone a colonoscopy performed by him. There is always the worry in the back of your mind that the disease has progressed or even become cancerous and the whole gastroenterology teams supportive attitude helped to keep this worry to a minimum by expediting investigations.
From Dr Gillens secretary to Audrey, the endoscopy nurses and of course Dr Gillen the care and attention I received was second to none and I would like to thank you all for the understanding and professionalism you provided despite the crippling demands of an overstretched and underfunded NHS.
Your service has without a doubt been patient-centred and I thank you sincerely for that.
