"Hello my name is"

About: Bradford Royal Infirmary

A few observations from me presenting myself a A&E.Initially saw a nurse in triage - the nurse removed dressing from injured arm - the nurse then went to look for something - wound - nurse then went to find something/body - wound left exposed - eventually staff nurse came to examine wound - then the nurse had to go find something more minutes when arm still exposed - staff nurse then returned and put dressing on - seems expensive alternative to cling film being used during earlier visits - how much does a dressing cost? Went to Minor injuries handed in relevant p/work.You then go into a void - you then wonder if your notes have been misplaced - patients then start asking already under pressure nursing staff as to how long before they will be seen- how many time does this happen during a shift? Would it not be possible for arrivals to be elect logged by patient ( as in GP surgeries ) you could the be informed as to how many people are in front of you - this could also be backed up by rolling message board as to waiting time? Examination by doctor was very thorough. The treatment I subsequently received from the nurse was exemplary.During my visit I saw a doctor , staff nurse ,three nurses and a student nurse. The only people who introduced themselves ves were the Doctor and the Student Nurse this seems rather strange as thought ' Hello my name is ' campaign which was promoted by Dr Kate Granger seems to have been totally missed by some of the staff on A&E

Thank you for your comments, you have raised some very valid points which will be shared with the team. It is disappointing to hear that the nurses didn’t introduce themselves, it is not acceptable. We have embraced the hello my name is campaign and have had great feedback from lots of areas where staff introducing themselves has made a significant difference to the patient experience. If you want to discuss any of your points with a member of staff please call the patient experience manager who will be happy to help 01274364810. Thank you.
