"Absolutely nothing! My mother ..."

About: Barnsley Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

Absolutely nothing! My mother was admitted as an emergency - after two and a half weeks no correct diagnosis was made and she ended up with total renal failure and had to be transferred elsewhere for life-saving treatment. Also, during her two and a half weeks she was moved around constantly due to bed shortages/ ward closures and was in fact in 8 different beds (wards) during her stay. No wonder a correct diagnosis was not made and her condition deteriorated as there was no continuity of nursing staff observing her deteriorating condition!

What could be improved

Patients should remain on one ward where nursing staff are aware of their condition and can monitor any progress or deterioration, rather than been moved around from ward to ward!

My mother was transferred to another hospital where her treatment and nursing care was second to none and she remained in the same ward for 5 weeks! If other hospitals can manage to do this why can't Barnsley?

Anything else?

Car parking is an absolute nightmare! I visited every day for two and a half weeks and realised that if I did not arrive at least an hour before visiting was due to begin then I would not be able to park my car! Indeed the first day I visited when my mother had been admitted as an emergency I had to wait 45 minutes to find a parking space - having already driven for well over an hour to get to the hospital - which was a very upsetting and stressful experience!
