"My Diabetes , me and the best nurse everr"

About: Luton Treatment Centre

(as the patient),

I have had diabetes for over 13 years. After about 8 years it began to go up to dangerously high. The top specialist at the L&D hospital couldn't get it under control but worse, in my opinion,  wouldnt or couldnt hear what I was saying about my body. This infuriated me as no-one knew my body and how it reacts like I knew my body! . In the end I was discharged saying by saying they couldn't do anything anymore for me. I feel like they could have been listened to what I was saying for a start but anyway my GP then referred me to Vestry Cls Community Treatment Centre where I was eventually put in the care of a nurse (dont know if I am allowed to say her name but I am going to anyway as she really should be recognised for the miracle she has acheived)Juliette sorry if I have spelt it wrong! When I first spoke to her I was on the defensive and vowed the next person I saw for this diabetes, I was going to make sure they heard me and understood that I know my body better than anyone else. So I laid the law done making sure I got the first word in. I was very civil to her but let her know I was in control first and formost! I was shocked at her responce. She totally agreed with everything I said about my body, ownership, what works for me but doesnt nessesarily work for others but she corrected me about it being a partnership between my diabetes, her and my body. ME in otherwords. she listened to everything I said to her over the next months and worked out a care plan around me and my life style, She contacted my GP when needed and put him in his place and to stop messing me around where my medication was concerned. She was never rude and went out of her way to not only help me but to work alongside of me. She never got angry when I forgot my appts. she was fantastic and the day she told me that my sugar levels was now at acceptable levels and that meant she had to refere me back to my GP and write me off her books I was devastated. She really cares about her clients and nothing seems to be too much bother for her. She is the very best of the best and as for Vestry Close, WELL! why wasnt I sent there at the start of my diabetes. The staff and I mean all the staff are really friendly and can have a laugh and a joke with them. It's not them behind the sceen and you on the other side. They think nothing of comeing out from behind the screens and giving a big hug when needed. I love them all. even the nurses who take the blood tests are really friendly and careing. Please dont ever change Vestry close and the wonderful staff who make it a pleasure to go there. I cant recommend it enough and will only go to the L&D if I absolutely have too!
