"Leading up to giving birth at Nsech"

About: Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital

(as the patient),

Third phone call before I was allowed to go into the hospital to have my baby, because 'I didn't sound like I was in enough pain'.

I was 5cm and baby's head was extremely low, the reason why I was so uncomfortable. Being told to have a bath, some painkillers and some breakfast when I could barely walk just because I wasnt screaming down the phone in pain, but breathing and rocking through it. It made me feel ignored. My notes were also misplaced.

The midwife who started delivery was amazing however and she knew her job well and was amazing.

Response from Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital

Dear 601,

I am extremely sorry that we could have done more for you in terms of listening to your concerns and enabling you to access help and support at the time you wanted it. We don't want anyone using our services to feel ignored or dismissed.

I am concerned to hear that your notes were misplaced, it would be useful to hear more detail about this please? My email is Annie.Laverty@nhct.nhs.uk.

I will in the meantime pass your review on to the maternity team, they will be keen to discuss if there is anything more they could have done to improve the experience for you. It's lovely to know that the midwife who started your baby's delivery was amazing.

With all best wishes to you and your family,

Annie Laverty - Director of Patient Experience
