"MRI Scan Experience."

About: Royal Orthopaedic Hospital

Today I had my scheduled MRI scan. This is my first review as I don't really feel the need to write them but I feel quite alarmed at today's experience.I went to reception with my paperwork which the area is also the waiting room/locker area and two changing rooms, there where 2 men already in the waiting room and I was asked to strip down to my lower underwear in the changing room and put on a backless gown and then sit and wait with the 2 gentleman in the waiting room.I found this quite undignified and kept my trousers on as I was feeling quite uncomfortable. After a few minutes of sitting there the receptionist offered me a private area to take off my trousers without exposing myself to the 2 gentleman already waiting,,I was then approached by a nurse who the receptionist must of informed of my feeling uncomfortable, they explained to me this was the layout and always had been,i asked them what their policy was with people with specific religious beliefs with which they repeated again the layout of the area which I felt avoided the question I had just asked them, later I was then approached by someone who was dealing with my MRI scan and was told I had to put my trousers in the locker in the waiting area.Again I explained I had a backless gown on and there were 2 gentleman in waiting area! whatever happened to patient dignity! the NHS do a marvellous job please don't let our great system down with incidents like this that can be so easily rectified..

Response from Sally Xerri-Brooks, Head of Communications, Communications, Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

I am so sorry to hear about this experience that you have had. I wonder whether you might be willing to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service to discuss it further? We'd certainly like the opportunity to find out more and hopefully rectify this for the future. You can email them on roh-tr.pals@nhs.net or 0121 685 4128.

With best wishes

Sally Xerri-Brooks
