"weekend transfer of Cedar ward"

Following emergency surgery in women and childrens hospital last weekend and post operative care on Cedar ward I was transferred to what i can only describe as "hell on earth" ward 7. I felt vulnerable and traumatised. I was informed that if i needed a nurse from my team they were on call so that did make me feel a little reassured. The consultant and nurse from Cedar visited twice over the weekend and it was very much appreciated. I felt rescued when my ward reopened on Monday morning and a porter came to collect me. The staff on ward 7 tried but didn't understand my treatment or care planned tried to include me in theirs e.g. checking me for bed sores etc..which was inappropriate. They tried to answer questions but clearly had too many patients to care for some of whom were abusive to them. There were some extremely vulnerable elderly patients who were in awful pain but did not complain and I fear were left alone for the most part. The facilities on the ward were inadequate. Hand basins with no plugs and long walk for women to the toilets ( I had just had surgery and struggled) I could have been more independent if a decent clean bathroom had been available. the practice of moving patients onto random overstretched specialist wards is dangerous in my opinion.This practice needs to stop. I cannot speak highly enough of Cedar Ward staff and all the consultants and doctors who helped me and I am eternally grateful to them.
