"I had a terrible time"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I felt as if I had lost my dignity and respect when I was QMC due to being left on a bed naked and in pain whilst I could see two nurses gossiping. I felt like they would not help me out of my bed, I felt like an animal. I had a laperotomy for removal of ovary and tube and adhesions of bowel. Two days after operation I got a severe abdominal infection. My consultant and her team were excellent. However, I believe some of the nursing care I received was extremely poor. There were some excellent nurses on the day team, however, I found some of the night staff were horrendous. When I requested pain relief there was long times before I received it due to being told there were only two nurses and there was no one around to administer it. Antibiotics given intravenous got later and later anywhere from 1.30am-5.00am due to staff having to come from other wards to give it to me. I was being left in pools of puss from leaking wound, I was begging for help and I was made to feel like no-one was going to come. I was also told they had forgotten and it was my job to keep ringing them. It was a terrible time for me, I was so upset I begged my consultant to go home. I thought that some of the night staff were bad and I would never want to go back.
