"Emergency admission"

About: Charing Cross Hospital

I am so grateful for the amazing care I received at this hospital. I had an asthma attack and spent a few nights in hospital. I was in resus for a while and treated so quickly and respectfully. I had some amazing nurses and doctors who helped calm me down. I was involved in my care throughout even checking if I felt well enough to go home, which given how acute my attack was I explained why not, and the doctor told me they trusted my judgement best. The consultant reassured me I was safe on the medical assessment unit and listened carefully to my concerns. I felt heard, cared for and no one was in a rush to get me out the door until I was medically fit. I did notice that staff would move between beds with equipment to measure observations, and not clean it between. This worried me as I had a virus which is what triggered my asthma it seems. Also a bank health care assistant, on medical assessment unit was completing a job application during their shift on the computer right beside my bed, and became upset when they thought they had lost what they had done. They were also rude to a patient who could not mobilise well and kept telling her to stand up when she needed more than one member of staff to help her. I had to explain this to the assistant. They were cross that the lady wouldn't stand but she was in agony. In terms of my own care I had an exceptional experience. I felt listened to, cared for, safe, and well monitored with a plan for follow up to check my condition. I want to thank all the staff as I was pretty scared when I got admitted. The whole system worked from my duty gp appointment, paramedics, a and e and ward staff and all the porters and amazing people who keep the hospital running. Keep it up. And thank-you!!!!
