I was recently in Basingstoke hospital for the day to undergo a diagnostic laparoscopy. Before my surgery I have absolutely no complains, the Anaesthesiologist and nurses were excellent and I could not fault them for putting me at ease about my first time surgery. However, when I awoke from surgery I had a rather blunt and rude nurse at my bedside, who when asked if they could get me another blanket as I was shivering so much, they promised to bring one back and never came. I saw the nurse who took me down to surgery who asked how I was feeling and that someone would be along in the next 10 minutes to take my OBS and remove my drip. After an hour of waiting a different nurse appeared saying it was time to get dressed and go home since I'd been checked out just fine and had a cup of tea, to which they looked at me in disbelief when I mentioned that I had in fact been left for an hour alone. I was given half a cup of luke warm water while they searched for my locker key which was never given to me. Once dressed, I was taken to the waiting to area where after 10 minutes I was asked if I would like a cup of tea, the original nurse who I saw when I first arrived appeared and was appalled that I still had the canula in my hand. All in all I feel a let down by the after care service, as before surgery I couldn't have had better staff to look after me.
