"My sisters labour experience at The New Royal London Hospital"

My sister went into the ward to have her baby last night. She had the worst experience ever. The midwife was not supportive and I could tell that she didn't like us and was going to be unfriendly and difficult as possible.

During almost 12 hours of labour at the Royal London, half way through the time my sister asked for drugs. The midwife kept offering her paracetamols which will do nothing for the pain. My poor sister was asking for pain relief and the midwife was annoying her by offering her paracetamol, and when I intervened I got ignored and dirty looks. Eventually she agreed to give my sister the drug of her choice but made her wait for it. I went out to reception and told her that my sister is in a lot of pain and needs her pethidine. Eventually after check up my sister was given the drug.

My sister was having her contractions constantly and felt I needed to inform the midwife who was relaxing in the reception area she said something but could not understand due to her strong accent.

Then my sister said that she wanted to push so again I went to speak with the midwife and said to her will you see her now. She took the wheel chair to take her to the delivery room but decided that my sister wasn't ready to push without checking her and probably thought she was doing this to get her attention.

My sister asked for pain relief and she offered paracetamol and then eventually epidural which was strange as she had the urge to push. My sister said she wanted to push and then she decided to take my sister to the delivery room. I said to the midwife you should have taken her sooner and she told the delivery midwife that we have been attacking her since we walked in. So obviously we got a cold reception from the second midwife who was doing everything at a snail rate.

This is meant to be a caring profession but it seems that they are so used to women in pain that they have no compassion. Student midwifes were lovely and smiley. I loved my midwife so much when I had my baby boy at The Royal London that I wanted to take home with me - that was years ago.

A horrible midwife spoils the whole experience of having a baby.
