"Care received by my Dad"

My dad tripped and out his arm through a greenhouse window. He had a serious wound to his forearm and was transferred to ARI by ambulance from Meldrum Health Centre. The staff at Meldrum health centre couldn't have done more to help my dad and calmly and efficiently dressed his arm and arranged for transfer by ambulance.

My dad was seen by Jill an ENP in A&E and she was fantastic. From the minute that she realised that his wound needed plastic surgery  she was open, honest and reassuring to both me and my dad about all aspects of his care. Honestly nothing was too much trouble for her!

We had a long wait for plastic surgeons but were kept up to date with what was happening and I could hear staff making every effort to chase things up and then would explain to us about expected timescales.

Once we got to ward 408 for review the staff there were every bit as good as those in A&E. My dad was reviewed very quickly once we arrived there and he was admitted immediately.

Surgery was planned for the next day but we were warned that the surgeons were very busy and that there was a possibility that dads surgery might not go ahead that day. Surgery did have to be postponed for a day but the nurses were very honest and open about what was going on.

All in all the nurses and junior doctors in 408 were all excellent and couldn't have done any more to make my dad as comfortable as possible. The care and attention showed to him was amazing and I can't talk highly enough of the care he received both from the health centre and at ARI.

Well done everyone you are all a credit to the NHS.

Many thanks for taking time out to post your feedback on Patient Opinion. It sounds like your dad had a very nasty injury. I hope he is well on the road to recovery now.

It is fantastic to hear how all the various parts which make up the NHS can work so well together to ensure a safe journey of care. The Health Centre, the Scottish Ambulance Service, the Emergency Department, the Operating Theatres and Ward 408 all played their parts in making sure that your dad was well looked after and that he received a high standard of care.

Waiting and postponements can be very frustrating for patients and families but your story shows that if staff are honest and explain things then patients are more able to understand and accept when delays occur.

We are all very grateful to you for sharing this story and the staff involve will be heartened to receive such praise. We pride ourselves in our ability to deliver person-centred, safe and effective care and we aim for all our patients to experience the same level of dedication and skill that your dad’s story exemplifies.
