"Overall impressions:contrast and comparison"

I have attended Elland Spire several times over recent years both as a private patient and via the NHS and have been generally pleased with the consistently sound standard of service: noticeably better than the treatment experienced by close relatives in the local

NHS hospital in Halifax during the same time span: this was dramatically variable in standard from day to day and shift to shift, with little obvious overall control or effective liaison between staff or departments. By contrast, I have seen consultants in 3 departments at The Spire recently and received further treatment from 2 of them and my experience has been favourable. Waiting time between GP referral [NHS and private] was quite short and subsequent treatment followed quickly.

Treatment in 2/3 depts ;from both consultants and staff was good;courteous, respectful and informative. I was listened to carefully and given diagnosis, treatment and advice based on my full understanding of the issues involved [ Plastic Surgery;Orthopaedic and Physiotherapy Departments]

Physiotherapy treatment continues and I am impressed both by the helpful, friendly approach of their reception staff and by the comprehensive nature of the treatment and advice, given by the confident, experienced physiotherapist to whom I am referred. Finishing on a slightly negative note however, I have also relatively recently seen a consultant specialising in Pain Relief who, despite their obvious expertise in this field, was difficult to talk to and unnecessarily impatient and arrogant [ fortunately made up for by the accompanying nursing assistant who was cheerful, helpful and constructive]:I feel that this individual would do well to observe the approach of some of their more sympathetic colleagues and take note.

Response from Spire Elland Hospital

Many thanks for your feedback and I am pleased to learn you have been happy with the majority of the care delivered by the team here.

I note your comments regarding the approach of one of our pain consultants and will ensure this is brought to his attention. I hope the physiotherapy is helping you back to full mobility and should you wish to discuss matters further, my office is two doors from the physiotherapy department so feel free to pop in for a chat.

Kind regards

Chris Harrison

Hospital Director
