"Kind and caring staff treated my Mum very well."

My very elderly Mum was in SLIC for 8 weeks following a hip fracture. I had read the reviews on line and was concerned. Fortunately our experiences of SLIC were much more positive. When Mum went in from LGI she was very fragile both physically and mentally. She required a high level of support especially when mobile. She was patiently taught to use her new walking frame and supported while doing so as she had become at serious risk of falls. Her chair and bed were alarmed and staff were quick to respond when Mum set the alarms off. The staff were kind, caring and always cheerful. There was often lively banter and light humour which seemed to keep moral high. Mum was encouraged but not forced to join in activities and, although a loner by choice, she enjoyed going to the dining room for lunch and chatting with other patients. She said the food was good and her appetite soon returned. After a visit from a hairdresser she looked and felt better than she had in a long time. The OT was very caring and reported back to us without notes and very thoroughly after a trial home visit. Mum was involved in the final discussion and decision with myself, the OT and a social worker as to her future. When Mum was asked where she would like to go she replied 'Somewhere like this.'

Mum is now very happily settled in a Leeds residential care home. I am grateful for the care she received at SLIC which helped her recovery and prepared her very well for her new home.
