"The staff on Cedar try very hard ..."

About: St Peter's Hospital (Chertsey)

(as a relative),

What I liked

The staff on Cedar try very hard to look after the mix of cases and age groups they have to deal with. They work to improve the process of giving my husband regular monthly care and now have it down to 3 days. Which is great!

What could be improved

The linkage between the pharmacy and the wards and the doctors that sign off prescriptions.

Equipment on the wards e.g fridges cant cater for treatments like my husbands that need 9 bottles of drugs. His stay could be cut to 2 days if the logistics was even more refined which would release a extra bed.

Anything else?

In Cedar, They have a big range of age groups and level of mental capability. I think that makes it so hard for the staff. I wonder whther more specialism by age might help? I often watch qualified staff spending hours watching someone who inists on shouting and swearing, clearly confused, and wanting to get out of bed all the time. I would encourage management to think about how cutting roles and responsibilities a different way might get a better outcome.

My husband has to have infusions and therefore needs blood and heart monitoring and there are more like him. Perhaps some sort of 'ward light model' could be considered in these situations ?

Otherwise I think everyone tries hard to manage the system they have to work in.
