"Severe lumbar spinal pain flare up"

About: Salford Royal

I have history of herniated disc L4/L5 causing sciatic pain in both legs. In July'16 I attended A&E as the conservative treatment attempted by my GP (Tramadol, Fentynal patches, diazapam etc) was not alleviating this severe flare up. I was unable to walk or sit down due to the pain and came to hospital in back of my partners car lying flat. I had to try sit in a wheelchair in A&E which was so painful it made me feel faint so I lay on the padded bench in the children's area waiting room. I was called and took ages to get back into wheelchair. Got to the triage room and was in so much pain had to lie on the floor! However, the triage nurse was amazing and made me feel so safe and wuickly got me a trolley bed to wait. I was then seen by, I think a Spinal Physio who was amazing. The Spinal Physio must have spent around 30 mins asking "red flag" questions to see I still had feeling in "saddle area" as some spinal conditions cause loss of feeling and control of bladder and even did bladder ultrasound. I was ok luckily. The Spinal Physio did thorough physical examination and explained to me what my probable options are ( I have been referred now to the Spinal Unit at Salford). The Spinal Physio was kind, professional and treated me like a human being with a brain! Salford, you are lucky to have them!
