"experience of IBD Clinic at The Royal London..."

About: The Royal London Hospital

Not very happy with Consultant who has left me with a flare-up of my Crohn's Disease, a bleeding bowel and in pain with constant diarrhoea despite being told I was in this state and needed antibiotics urgently to dampen down the disease. Refused to give me antibiotics without wasting a lot of time getting stool samples tested beforehand. As I live at some distance from the hospital, this means getting the necessary stool pots and covering form from my G.P. and taking the samples to my local hospital - despite the fact I can barely get around due to the incontinence which is part of the flare-up. To add insult to injury, they scheduled my next appointment for four months time despite knowing I was ill and likely to get worse without immediate treatment. Moreover, I was put on Inflimab infusions despite being 74 years old and had an extreme reaction to it last October ie septic shock.I never wanted to go to a conventional gastroenterologist in the first place as I had wonderful treament from the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine for over 41 years and never had to be admitted to hospital in that time. However, my funding was stopped by the PCT and my G.P. refused to supply my monthly medication if I refused to see a "proper gastroenterologist". This "proper Gastroenterologist" has not come up with a single treatment which is effective and my quality of life has been destroyed. Needless to say, I don't like the hospital or anything about it especially as

I feel patients are patronised and regarded as stupid even after managing this illness for over 50 years and working in the NHS.
