"Day surgery"

About: Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital

I had day surgery at this hospital on 19/07/16. The interactions I had with staff were very comforting - I would particularly like to highlight the people I sat with as I was preparing to be anaesthetised. There was a delay in preparing the theatre so I was with a student training to be a paramedic and another staff member who were very friendly and the student was excellent in their bedside manner. I had had to stay the night post-surgery and the team of nurses in the Quex ward were very accommodating, letting my partner stay past visiting time in case I was able to go home that night. In the morning they let him sit with me as I was being discharged and happily answered my questions and showed me how to change my dressings if necessary. I did not see a doctor in the morning of my discharge, however. It would have been reassuring to have had a short visit, however I did feel well prepared for my self care at home. Overall I had a great experience with this hospital and the teams I interracted with.

Thank you very much for letting us know about your experience of the day surgery you had at the QEQM.

I am glad to know that you were well communicated with and that you found the staff comforting and accommodating.

I am particularly glad to know that you were properly informed after your operation and that your partner was able to stay with you for as long as possible (while acknowledging it was a shame you had to stay in over night).

I am sure that the doctor would have liked to have seen you before discharge, but there is a good chance that he or she may already have been in surgery or a clinic.

I hope that you are now well on your way to recovery.
