"Being sent to Hospital with suspected preeclampsia in pregnancy"

About: Crawley Hospital / General surgery East Surrey Hospital / Accident and emergency East Surrey Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I went to see an out of hours dr recently at Crawley hospital. She referred me straight to east Surrey hospital for suspected preeclampsia, as I couldn't get hold of anyone in delivery suite and neither could the A&E department I was booked in at A&E. The nurse who assessed me was so abrupt and rude they said I'd need an ECG and blood test but I'd been sent to have a urine and blood test by the dr at Crawley, this nurse never explained reasons for ECG.

Managed to get hold of delivery suite who told me to go straight up, I informed A&E reception of this and as things were being organised (notes and clarifying with delivery suite I was meant to be going there) this nurse walked past and said I've already phoned delivery suite and they DONT WANT HER!  Then proceeded to storm off. As I have suffered from PTSD from a bad birthing experience at a different hospital hence why I was now considering having my baby at east Surrey, my anxiety level had begun to climb at this point. Then once arriving at delivery suite I got my head bitten off for not having my notes and that my mum would have to traipse home to get them, that I wouldn't be seen in delivery suite and to go away to day assessment unit and that I'd have hours to wait to be seen. By this point I was beside my self and my PTSD had been reactivated. The women I saw in the day unit were lovely (Sam and Lauren) really helped alleviate some of my stress, reassured me everything was fine, checked for preeclampsia but I didn't have protein in my wee anymore and blood pressure started coming down. I have just however had to see my psychotherapist after the dreadful and what I feel was abusive treatment from staff at East Surrey and I've now also booked in with a private midwife and my trust and confidence plummeted after this.
