"Meaningful Activity Club, Wishaw General Hospital"

About: University Hospital Wishaw

(as a volunteer/advocate),

I am a volunteer in the Meaningful Activity Club (MAC) at Wishaw General Hospital, Ward 10 and I have been extremely impressed by the quality of care received by the patients who attend the Club. Individuals who meet certain criteria will participate in the group’s activities which range from playing dominoes and having a chat to taking part in computerised activities on the newly developed system. It has been proven that both eating and sleeping are improved as a result of involvement with the Club. The staff there are wonderful, always putting the patients’ needs first and welcoming newcomers and friends and relatives alike with a warm and friendly demeanour. They are caring, supportive and their commitment to their patients goes well beyond the call of duty. They are always willing to go that extra mile to introduce new areas of interest and activities that they believe will stimulate their patients within this environment. The MAC group really is an essential resource that permits those who attend to express themselves in ways that otherwise would not be possible.

Dear Clairetandamber

Thank you for taking the time to post such a positive comment on patient opinion.

Volunteers are an integral part of assisting us with activities that help de-stress our patients.

I am pleased that staff within MAC made you welcome and that you saw the staff's committment providing such an excellent and valued service.

Thank you for being kind enough to volunteer.

Regards

Janice

Dear Claretandamber

Thank you for sharing your good experiences as a volunteer in the Meaningful Activity Club. Everyday in MAC is different as all of the activities are patient centred and volunteer involvement in MAC means that the staff can consider a wider variety of activities as there are other people there to help facilitate them.

As Janice said, NHS Lanarkshire values volunteers very highly and we are glad that our volunteers feel valued.
