"Best experience I could ever have asked for"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital / Obstetrics (Maternity care)

(as the patient),

I had the best experience I could ever of asked for.

At 7. 30am I had my first contraction, soon with some bleeding, I called the Washburn ward and was told to give it an hour and call back. An hour later with more bleeding I called back and was told to head in for a check up. Was was placed on the ecg machine and it was confirmed I was in early Labour. By 14. 30 my waters had broke, I was rushed to the midwife unit and at 15. 20, I gave birth to the most precious little girl. I want to say a massive thank you to Sally, the midwife. Being a first time mum I didn't know what to expect or really how to feel, everything happened so quickly and took everyone, including staff by surprise.

All staff, including the trainer midwives were great, I didn't feel pressured into doing anything I didn't want to and had a feat chat with them all.

We were then moved to the somerfield ward and again the staff were great - they showed us how to bath her and again, no pressure On how to do anything, were there to ask questions but didn't Interfere.

On behalf of myself, my partner and our wee bundle, I want to say a massive thank you, I really couldn't of asked for a better experience and I would highly recommend the midwife unit to everyone!

Dear Kaykay1993x

Congratulations on the birth of your wee girl!

Thank you so much for taking the time to post your story on patient Opinion. It sound like things progressed rather rapidly especially for a first baby!

Staff will be delighted to read your feedback and to know how happy you were with their care. What you describe is exactly the person-centred approach that we would like all our mums and patients throughout our hospitals to experience. Good information and support to make your own decisions is definitely how things should be.

Thank you again and good luck with your little one.

Kind regards
