"A special nurse called debbie"

About: NHS Blackburn With Darwen / Tissue Viability and Vascular Service

(as the patient),

I suffered from cellulitis some six months ago following an injury to my leg. My GP sent me to the health centre for a dressing, however the nurse put the bandage on too tight and the skin on my leg blistered and peeled.

My GP asked a skin specialist to see me. Thank goodness there is someone who knows what they are doing! Debbie called to see me at home treated me with antibiotics and bandages, once the leg was healed she asked me to come along to the healthy legs clinics where her and the team were fantastic!

I went along to the clinic the other week and saw a nurse who I felt didn't really know what she was doing and didn't even introduce herself. I thought she was too busy talking to her colleagues. I was given a prescription for some new stockings but I have tried to wear them but they were just too tight. Fortunately I had Debbies number and rang her, once again she was my knight in shining armour, she took lots of measurements of my legs and has given me a new pair of stockings. I wonder why the nurse at the clinic couldn't just spend 5 minutes of her time doing this? It seems to me that nurses like Debbie are few and far between in my experience. She tells me that she is leaving and I for one will miss her greatly. I was a health vistor before I retired and I am thankful that the traditional caring nurses.
