"Visit to A&E whilst 24 weeks pregnant."

About: Chesterfield Royal Hospital

I experienced severe pain in my neck, chest and stomach whilst pregnant and was therefore taken to A&E by my husband. Each member of staff who dealt with us was exceptional. They were calm, efficient, reassuring and incredibly caring. The department was very busy with several upset and distressed patients and again, each member of staff I overheard and observed was calm, professional and treated each patient with dignity. The F2 who eventually saw me and gave me a diagnosis was kind, informative and reassuring and although I was still in pain when I left, my anxiety levels were greatly reduced. It was clear all staff and resources were extremely stretched that evening but it was obvious the team were working exceptionally well together and at no point did I feel my health was compromised. I would like to thank every single member of staff on duty that evening (13.07.16)for being so attentive, compassionate and empathetic - I feel extremely fortunate that myself and my family are able to access such quality of care. I know names cannot be published but would like my gratitude passed on to the nurse in charge, the staff nurse who saw me initially the F2 and every single HCA who completed regular obs, my ECG, bloods and provided refreshments. They all deserve equal gratitude and recognition.

Response from Chesterfield Royal Hospital

It must have been really worrying to have to come in to our emergency department at 24 weeks pregnant and I hope that everything is continuing to go well for you.

You observed how busy the department is and this has been the same throughout July so the team will be delighted to receive your thoughts about the care you received and how you felt you were treated (and how you saw others treated as well).

I will make sure your post is shared with them and wish you all the best for the birth of your baby.

Kind regards Sarah Turner-Saint, head of communications
