About: East Surrey Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

Getting out of this over subscribed, dirty awful place.

What could be improved

Firstly, the wards are dirty, no filthy espcially the floors. When I was moved to a ward from A+E there was a soiled cup, and food from previous patient still on the bed table and on the Bed cabinet. The previous patients notes were left on MY bed. Had I not noticed this I could have been given drugs etc that had nothing to do with my illness. The staff did not come when 'belled' by other patients which made them very distressed as they were elderly and immobile. I would never want to be a patient at this hospital ever again. I know so many people who have nothing good to say about this place. Bring back Matrons and staff that can be understood by the patients and cleaners who want to clean.

Anything else?

East Surrey Hospital is having to cope with far too many patients from a far too wide area. It is obvious they can not cope. Patients note files are left in corridors etc. I will never understand why Crawley hospital has almost closed for intakes. What the hell are all the floors at Crawley Hospital being used for??? Open this hospital up again on full facilities. It is outrageous that East Surrey Hospital has to cope ( or try to) with so many patients when it is quite obvious they can not. God forbid if there is ever a major alert at Gatwick etc, E.Surrey will never be able to cope with it.

Thank you for taking the time to comment about your experience at East Surrey Hospital.

We strive to deliver excellent, accessible healthcare and we’re sorry that your experience did not match the experience of the majority of our patients and that on this occasion it didn’t meet the high standards we require.

As you have not said which ward you were on it will be difficult to take your concerns up with the ward and staff directly, but we do take all comments seriously and each comment is fed back to our management team.

Our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) is available to listen to concerns, suggestions or queries and can help sort out problems quickly on your behalf. You can contact PALS by telephone on 01737 231958, email: pals@sash.nhs.uk, or by writing to: PALS, East Surrey Hospital, Canada Avenue, Redhill, Surrey RH1 5RH.
