"Post op communication"

About: Royal Hallamshire Hospital Thornbury Hospital (Sheffield)

(as a relative),

My husband had an urology operation on Monday. His consultant whom he had not met previously visited him before surgery. They seemed vague as to what they were expected to do which made us doubt they had reviewed fully his medical history. After the surgery there was no post operative communication or routine visit by the surgeon. We are now at day 3 and although numerous ways have been attempted by our family and the nursing staff to get some contact with this surgeon my husband has been left emotionally drained wondering exactly what surgery was performed and what the outcome was. He has now been discharged with no information on follow up appointment date, etc other than that given by the nurses who cared for him who rang the anaesthetist who attended the surgical procedure regarding his medication.

I am sorry to hear about the lack of communication. Clearly this has caused anxitey you and more importantly your husband a great deal of anxiety and I apologise for this.

If you would like to provide our Patient Services Team with personal details we would be able to look into this on your husband's behalf. The Team can be contacted by telephoning 0114 271 2400 or by emailing pst@sth.nhs.uk

Kind regards.
