(as a relative),

What could be improved

On Saturday 6th March, I visited a friend in Digswell ward. On entry to the ward I saw an elderly, clearly very poorly, man who was lying in bed in full view of the public, wearing only a pyjama top and a nappy! Where is the dignity in this for this poor chap? I thought the NHS was committed to ensuring dignity for their patients. Not in this case! Several of the nursing staff passed by this man and did nothing to restore his dignity. It would only have taken moments to cover him up. Dreadful!

Just like you, we are very disappointed about what happened. It was wrong that this man's dignity was compromised like this - as well as against our policy. It was also wrong that as a visitor to the ward, you should have been upset in this way. We have brought the matter to the attention of the team that manages the ward, asking them to make sure that they address the issue promptly. In the meantime, please accept our apologies.
