"Birth and newborn care"

About: Northwick Park Hospital

I had my baby 6 days ago in the birth centre. All the staff were amazing. The midwives followed my birth plan and we're really on board with it. Such a positive (if painful!) experience. A day later I was back with baby in a&e. Fantastic that there is a paediatric a&e. We got seen really quickly (no queue) and all staff were fantastic. They fully explained decisions and there was even breastfeeding support (and emotional support for new mum!). We had to be admitted into the children's ward 'Jack's Place'. Absolutely blown away by the care we received there. The nurses - day and night - really worked over and above with a constant friendly attitude despite the stresses of the job. One nurse also managed to squeeze in time where possible to help me establish breastfeeding. The protocols were stuck to diligently - 2 people to do the antibiotics as a safeguarding measure, always a new bib with each visit and constant hand washing and glove use. Excellent handling of baby too and lots of talking to her. The cleaner was a lovely person again really friendly. And on one occasion they picked a muslin off the floor for me, using a tissue to do so - I thought that showed excellent practice. It's always the small things! The food was pretty good too, and the lovely person who brought it in each meal made an effort to remember my regular order. I really had the most positive NHS experience and want to thank everyone who helped us. Only trouble now is that baby liked her hospital crib so much (transparent and at a slant) that she isn't impressed by what we have to offer her at home at all!
