"Giving birth to my second baby"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital / Obstetrics (Maternity care)

(as the patient),

My labour started at 10: 15pm and went from 0-60 in seconds! My show came away at 10: 15 and by 10: 40 I was having contractions every 2 minutes that lasted 50 seconds. I phoned the Westburn ward who passed me to labour ward, the midwife on the phone was so helpful and before I knew it I was in the car on the way to the hospital.

Shelley my midwife met me at the door and took such good care of me. My son had pooped in the womb and also had his cord wrapped round his neck but I knew his was in good hands. I didn't feel stressed or worried in the slightest but to be honest the contractions were coming thick and fast it was hard to focus on anything.

She was a calming presence in the room and kept encouraging me telling me how well I was doing. My son was born at 12: 50am and was taken such good care of.

The midwives are rushed off their feet in every department that it's not surprising that they can't give their undivided attention to one person at a time.

Dear MrsHGoo

Congratulations on the speedy birth of your son!

Thank you so much for taking time out to post your feedback on Patient Opinion. It is lovely and reassuring for other expectant mums to hear such a positive story about Aberdeen Maternity Hospital.

Things certainly seemed to progress quickly for you. The fact that you did not feel worried or stressed is testimony to the professionalism and excellence of our staff, but also to the way you coped with such a fast labour.

Shelley will be pleased to get a mention by name. It is not always easy to create a calm environment when, as you say, staff are extremely busy and always have lots to do.

Good luck with your son. I am sure he will be much loved.

Many thanks again,
