"Family visit"

About: West Glasgow Ambulatory Care Hospital (Yorkhill) / Minor Injuries Unit

(as the patient),

I accidentally rolled over on my ankle and wasn't sure if it was broken so my doctors staff told me to go to the Yorkhill MIU. My sister who had hurt her wrist weeks ago was driving me there and decided she would ask them to have a look at it. While driving there my son called me and when finding out where I was headed informed me he had to go there to get an X-ray so could we pick him up. So there we were, all 3 presenting ourselves with different ailments looking for help, a strange family outing! : )

The receptionists were absolutely lovely to us and promptly got us into the system while we had a laugh about our day out. Less than 5 minutes later we were called one after another to be attended to by really professional friendly nurse practitioners and X-Ray technicians.

I couldn't believe how quickly and professionally we were seen and treated, (about 30mins total) but the most impressive thing about our time there was the staff. They were upbeat, caring, welcoming, and professional. I can honestly say it's the first time I've had a good laugh at a hospital!

I don't know if the concept of minor injury units is new, but it's a great way to take some pressure off the already crowded A&E's and a MUCH better experience for someone like myself, who needed more help than my doctors surgery could give me, but not needing as much as a hospital.

If the staff in this unit get this feedback please tell them a big thank you from us.

I work in a small team within NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. Part of the team’s role is to support patients and carers through our feedback systems which will help to improve the services we provide. On Patient Opinion, I support Lorna Gray, Patient Experience Public Involvement Project Manager, and Niall McGrogan, Head of Patient Experience Public Involvement.

Dear America

Thank you very much for taking the time to post about your recent experience on Patient Opinion. I am pleased to hear that not only you, but your sister and son were able to be treated at our minor injury unit in West Glasgow ACH (formally Yorkhill) and that you all received the care you needed so quickly.

Furthermore, it is lovely to hear that you were not only happy with the care that you all received but the way in which that care was delivered by our staff, from being made to feel welcome, to friendliness and being upbeat and also being able to have a good laugh. It is important that all of our patients are made to feel that way when having to use any of our services.

We have minor injury units across NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. More information is on them is available on our website www.nhsggc.org.uk/patients-and-visitors/know-who-to-turn-to/minor-injuries-unit/.

I will ensure your kind words are shared with the staff in the minor injuries unit at West Glasgow ACH, they will be delighted to receive this feedback.

I hope that you, your sister and your son are all on the road to recovery.

Best wishes
Lisa
