"Care after scoliosis operation in PHDU and..."

About: John Radcliffe Hospital

We have experienced amazing care for my daughter (15) following a scoliosis operation. Our first thanks go to the spinal team, who we cannot praise enough. Always straight forward, confident and understanding. The results speak for themselves, our daughter is already getting back on her feet.

Then PhDP for two nights. The member of staff who received two nervous parents, quickly got us settled into the routine of caring for our daughter. There was never a debate about what to do, we felt in confident hands, even during the periods of pain for my daughter.

Then we experienced the physio team, which again impressed us, so sweet with our daughter. They got her walking within a couple of days. Always a smile on their face, and our daughter feeling safe to take impressive steps, so quickly after her operation.

Finally to Melanie's ward where we were quickly made to feel at home. The words that springs to mind for the whole Melanie Ward team are professional, kind, and responsive. We had a night where we had to ask for pain killers at 1.30am, but it was not a problem. We felt we were part of the team.

Additionally we need to mention Ronald McDonald House, which is the charity that has accommodation for families. Whilst it was possible for one parent to stay on the ward, it made the difference that our son could also be with us. It also made possible for one parent to have a rest, whilst the other took 'a shift'.

We could not have wanted more. Fantastic NHS. And just one final thanks to the doctor, for what you have done for our daughter.

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide this lovely feedback. I do apologise for the delay in responding to you.

It's so great to hear that your experiences with each team along the way were so positive. It's so important that families are involved in the care and treatment plans of their loved one and it's lovely to hear that you were all so well accommodated. As a Trust we aim to provide excellent care with compassion; which includes being kind, professional, efficient and involving patients' relatives and carers. We hope your daughter is doing well.
