About: John Radcliffe Hospital

I was due to be induced on the 8th may 2016, however I went into natural labour at 2am. On calling the mau I was advised that my labour would progress slowly and to come to hospital at 10am when I was due to be induced. I called the mau again after two hours as it was clear my labour was progressing quickly, I was told that a midwife would call me back asap, after an hour it was clear no one was calling and I set off for the hospital. When I arrived at 6am no midwifes were available to see me due to a women refusing to give birth in the delivery suite and needing all the midwives in mau, therefore I was left to labour in the waiting room for over two hours. When my urine was finally tested, I was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia and sent to delivery suite.

I moved to delivery suite at 10am and was allocated an amazing midwife who was extremely supported and stayed past the end of their shift in order to deliver my baby at 8.05pm. After changing midwives everything slowed down, I was offered tea and toast but this took three hours to arrive, at 10.30pm I asked if my partner could go home to rest and if he needed to help me move to a ward etc. he left and I was advised to go to the toilet alone, on returning from the toilet I felt very light headed and informed my new midwife who advised me to lay down. Despite calling for advise on what would happen next and having preeclampsia no one came to see me until 3am when I was moved to the ward. It felt that all the support disappeared as soon as I had given birth and I was let alone whilst feeling light headed with a newborn.

On moving to the ward I again received excellent support from the nurses and midwives available.
