"First class treatment by visiting surgeon bad..."

About: Medway Maritime Hospital

I had my prostate removed by a Surgeon from another hospital. The operation was a great success with my treatment immediately prior and post 1st class. The following things happened in the recovery wards:-

A woman in another bed in the recovery ward was being moved by an attendant and a nurse who were too busy talking to each other they did not notice her catheter tubing caught around my bed which resulted in her screaming in pain, the tubing was released and they carried on with the move and their talking.

I was moved to a larger recovery room where I had to remind the nurse that I was 2 hours overdue an injection which was then given to me in my arm and not the thigh or abdomen as recommended by the manufacturers and specialist nurses I had been dealing with.

The night staff change over took place and the day staff explained each patients requirements to them. during which time the night staff attempted to have a discussion with me but I was unable to understand what they were saying. The staff then asked the day staff in my presence how to turn the heart monitor on. This made me very nervous and certainly prevented me from resting as I felt that if anything untoward happened they just would not have been able to communicate with me or deal with anything other than a very minor problem.

Your staff turned a magnificent effort by a visiting surgeon into a nightmare and ruined what should have been a great occasion for me. I would certainly fight not to come to your hospital again.

It was unfortunate for you because in August 2015 I was singing your praises through the Kent Messenger news paper about the wonderful treatment my Mother in Law received in your A&E department under very difficult conditions, which were bough about by the lack of funding by the NHS and not inefficiency by your staff.
