"A&E visit for dehydration"

About: Stoke Mandeville Hospital

I have ulcerative colitis and have been unwell for the last couple of months. A few days ago I picked up gastroenteritis. After 2 days of non stop vomiting and not being able to keep anything down (not even sips of liquids or medication) I passed out due to dehydration. I then passed out again and appeared to be shaking violently and unconscious. My mother drove me to Stoke Mandeville and after reporting to reception I was seen in 5 minutes by triage and immediately been given a bed. I was treated swiftly and appropriately. I was given a choice regarding my treatment and was discharged when I was comfortable and ready to leave. There was a blood stain on the floor when I arrived which wasn't great but overall the hospital was nice and clean.

Dear Amber Elle

Thank you for sharing your experience of our services on this website.

I am very pleased to learn that you were treated swiftly and appropriately when you attended the A&E department at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, at what would have been a worrying time for you and your mother.

It is further encouraging to hear that you found the department to be overall nice and clean.

I will ensure your positive comments are passed on to the teams involved in your care and I hope you have now made a full recovery.
