"ENT Surgery and Aftercare"

About: Leighton Hospital

I recently spent a short stay in hospital well just over a week after arriving in A and E with a raging temperature rash and one side of my face swelling...I was seen fairly quickly and sent into the bed area of A and E to wait to be transfered to a ward. I had the routing tests done in A and E the moved to a ward at midnight I was then moved to various other wards it took 5 days for me to be seen by ENT but there involvement from there was highly satisfying.... I had various scans and was told I had an absess behind my eye and very badly infected sinuses, and was told I was going to need surgery to drain my sinuses and remove the absess... I was also told they may to make an incision around my eye if needed to get the absess out but luckily they just did it via endoscopy through the nasal passage. After coming out of surgery I was highly looked after and assisted through my recovery although very confused..while awaiting surgery the team relaxed me talking to me about where I work ect and what I like to do..The ENT department has been fabulous since coming out of hospital yes I have been back and too for appointments , but the consultant which preformed my surgery has stuck with me through all my appointments and has made sure it's them that I see when I go although my surgery was in February the consultant has since prescribed me various medications to help..although still slightly suffering they have made sure they will see me again and talked me through everything and made sure that I am happy with the decisions that have been made throughout although I am likely to need further surgery the ENT department have been lovely.

Thank you so much for contacting us with your feedback.

I am sorry to hear it took some time to diagnose your condition and get you under the care of the right speciality. It sounds like you have been very unwell and I am so glad to hear you are well on the way to recovery.

I will pass your feedback on to ward 10 and ENT outpatients. Staff are delighted to hear when patients feel that they have been well looked after.

I wish you a speedy recovery.

Helen Nutkins, Matron
