"Nothing"

About: University Hospital Of North Durham

(as a relative),

What I liked

Nothing

What could be improved

The amount of staff on wards 3 and 6 is unsuffuicient leading to the staff not having time to speak to patients or their relatives. My husband suffers from mental health and is deaf and I asked to speak to a doctor to check on him. I was told there was no doctor on the ward. The next day he was discharged, still not well, I kicked up a fuss because his discharge letter was wrong in that it stated he "lived independently" which was totally incorrect. The doctor then came to see me and when I said I had asked to see someone the previous day but told no doctors were on the ward, the doctor said there were always doctors on the ward. The staff do try their best but these wards are understaffed and some of the nurses have no people skills at all.

Anything else?

Shotley Bridge and its staff was a much better hospital. This was closed to make way for this hospital, but it cannot cope with the area it has to provide for. In A&E you could wait all night to be seen. Our preference it we need A&E is to go to Hexham. The only efficient place in University Hosapital Durham is the Outpatient Department.
