"Waiting for results"

About: Monklands District General Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as the patient),

I was dropped from radiology waiting list due to Drs not communicating about as to why the request for a ct scan had been made.

I only discovered this as I contacted the doctor's secretary to say I had a holiday planned and was concerned that I may have received an appointment for during the holiday period.

I raised my concern with Patient Affairs this was investigated and I recieved an apology I also was given an appointment to discuss my future care plan in mid May

At the appointment the Dr shrugged their shoulders when I mentioned the communication between doctors.  He asked a few questions

1 Did I have any diahorrea

2 Did I have symptoms of Arthritis

when I said no i was informed that investigations would need to start from beginning and I  was given relevent documents to have blood taken.

I should have mentioned that the initial investigations were requested by my GP as I was anemic and was referred  to Gastroenterology for Endoscopy and gastroscopy but unfortunatley I couldnt tolerate endoscopy, this was why he referred me for further investigations

My initiation consultation with Dr was April 2015

Initial appointment with hospital Dr was December 2015

I would have thought that I would have heard from the hospital Dr re bloods taken in mid May by now.

The bloods were normal I know this as another Dr (rheumatology) at Monklands informed me of this at my appointment on Monday 6th June.

I am assuming that no further investigations will be required but would have expected to have heard from gastroenterology informing me of results.

I contacted my GP surgery to ask if results were sent to them they have not received them.

Sadly there appears to be a breakdown in communication from gastroenterology

I would like to receive written confirmation from gastroenterology stating the outcome of blood results as I want to put this behind me and dont think that is asking too much

I would be grateful for your assistance.

Dear Yendik

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience with our services.

I am so sorry for the length of time it has taken, both for your symptoms to be fully investigated, and for you to have the results communicated to you, which I imagine may have added to your concerns.

One of our Locum Gastroenterologists recently left the department, and this has left a gap in the service which we are trying very hard to fill at the moment.

In the meantime, to avoid any further delay in communicating your results, it would be really helpful if you would be willing to make direct contact with us through our Patient Affairs department so that I can look into these specific matters for you and provide you with a more detailed response.

You are quite right - that is not asking too much of us, and we should have provided you with the correct information in the first place. Apologies again that we didn't do that.

With best wishes
