"My mum recieved truly outstanding care"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Cancer Services (Medical Oncology)

(as a relative),

My 80 year-old mum came to visit me in Aberdeen in April. She wasn't feeling so well and had been having some tests in Birmingham. She walked (!) to A&E at the ARI and was swiftly admitted.

Three days, many tests and a stay in HDU later she was taken to theatre for major surgery. A large (cancerous) tumour had been found on her colon. She then spent two weeks on Ward 501.

She received truly outstanding care; nurses, doctors, healthcare assistants were amazing. My mother is convinced that without the prompt and efficient care she received she wouldn't be here today. She is now extolling the virtues of Scottish healthcare to her family south of the border!

Dear S's daughter

Your mum sounds like a truly remarkable woman. Thank you so much for taking the time to post your story on Patient Opinion. It sounds like staff all did a fabulous job in diagnosing and treating your mum. From the Emergency Department to theatres, HDU and Ward 501, it must have been hard going for your whole family, but thankfully with a happy outcome..

Staff will be delighted to hear how their professionalism and honest hard work were perceived and of course none of us are averse to a bit of positive publicity in our neighbouring country.

Thank you again for your feedback. We will of course share with all the staff concerned.
