"Excellent care at East Surrey following stillbirth"

About: East Surrey Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

Sadly, earlier this year, we lost our daughter, during labour. It obviously was and remains an extremely traumatic moment in our lives but we wished to commend your team, and particularly Tracy S, for their kind help and support. We were lucky in that we got to spend time with our daughter after her stillbirth and Tracy’s attention and direction in the hours during and following the birth have been invaluable to us in ensuring we have as many happy memories as possible from the event. The ongoing time and support that Tracy has also willingly provided has also meant a great deal for us and was incredibly helpful, for example, around the time before the funeral.

We understand that Sands provide much of the tangible support, I. e. the private room, camera, memory cards etc. , but know that without the love and kindness we felt from the team the short time we had with our daughter would have been far less positive. We also recognise that resources can be stretched in any department but would advocate as strongly as possible that time and resource is assigned to the bereavement midwives to allow them to continue their excellent work. Although the timing of these situations are primarily un-planned, we are so grateful that Tracy was available immediately throughout the whole experience.

Having met Tracy, despite the sad experience we have had while attending East Surrey this time, we would still choose to use East Surrey maternity ward in the future (fingers crossed).

Dear Lts

Thank you so much for taking the time to post this message about your recent sad experience. I am sorry for your loss but pleased that Tracy and other members of the midwifery team were there to support you during this tragic event.

I will ensure that your comments are shared with Tracy and the midwifery team.

We are indebted to the SANDs organisation for their practical and financial support as this does help us to provide the appropriate care for our patients who sadly experience such a loss.

I would like to wish you the very best for the future and hope that we can provide your maternity care in happier circumstances.

Bill Kilvington
